So I think the marathon we were shooting for has come and gone, but I'm still running:)
2010 resolution.....do it! (the marathon, that is;)
I joined a gym again and working out has just become a necessary part of my day. I've been doing 5 miles outside pretty easily now for the past 2 weeks, and I try to do most of my running outdoors simply because I feel like I could run on the treadmill forever. It looks like the snow is going to keep me inside for awhile now, but I'm not too worried. Hoping to already be surrounded by sunshine and sand by the time the next marathon comes around!
Good luck with the weather, I'm sure GR is going to be pretty miserable these next couple days!

...
It's Jan 20th and I guess it's safe to say I'm a runner again:) My life has been really up and down the past two weeks and running has become muse. I sleep better at night just from the exhaustion of the 5 miles I've been putting in each day! It's a good feeling to be back on track, and I'm serious about a marathon. Whether it happens this year or in 5, the fact that I KNOW I could finish it is motivation enough to keep hitting the pavement.
It's a little cold out, but I guess the air is good for the lungs and the snow for the calves;)

If you're reading this...
you should def jump on this wagon! Yesterday was my 3 consecutive day of running...in the snow!
It's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, in fact, I'm almost mad at myself for not giving it a shot sooner. The chill only stays with you for about the first half mile or so, and by the end I'm sweaty sweaty!
3 days, 3 miles each day....it's not a lot, but if I can keep it up for at least 4 times a week I'm sure the mileage will start to add up. Wednesdays are my only super long days this semester so I'll probably make it my rest day and start up again Thursday.
Hope all is well and HOPEFULLY we'll see you posting again soon=)

back on the pavement
I ran today=)
3 miles on the slippery sidewalks, and I didn't even fall once! lol It was a decent run considering it's been about 3 weeks since I've done much working out at all, but my lungs are definitely feeling the cold air now. I'm going to try to keep this up at least 3 times a week. Join me?

Have you heard of this? I guess if you don't already participate, then it is just another "fad" workout system promising ripped abs and toned arms, but I think you'd be surprised. It's pretty intense; split up into about 6 15-30 min. segment videos targeting different parts of the bod, plus a new diet and cardio routine. I'm not into changing my lifestyle lol but I started doing the ab ripper video 2 times a day last week and I can honestly say it's working. It kills, and for the first two days I really couldn't ACTUALLY do the exercises properly, but once you build up the strength it really burns and you can feel it working.
I just thought I'd let you know because according to most of the runners I've talked to or read about there is nothing more beneficial than cross-training:)
Got our first snowfall last night...how's the lake effect snow in GR?? Hopefully it's not too bad and you don't have to drive too much further north in this weather!

running cures a running nose...bahhhh;)
Tonight I ran far...real far, and kinda fast=) lol But really....
It was a beautiful night for a run and with finals right around the corner I was in need of a good run!
7.2 miles
1 hour, 18 min.(still 10 minute miles, but that's the furthest I've gone in awhile:))
Hope your motivation has begun to kick in and that you had a good holiday!

Motivation
Damn it; I must be just tired. I continue to stay sick for some reason, although I have been sleeping ungodly amounts of hours. Tomorrow won't be any good, because I am going to go to Saginaw at about 6 A.M. Before that, I'll be back to running though. I suggest you subscribe to Runner's World magazine, its only $12 for the entire year! That's 75 % off the news... Just kidding. But I just did it, for the motivation and tips $12 is a steal. Tomorrow I'm going back to 3, then 4 and 3 for the week, and Sunday get at a 5 or so. I'm trying to get it back going, but winter just sucks. Awesome seeing you, hope your motivation is going well.

Last night it was freezing. So I put on some leggings, a t-shirt, a sweatshirt, gloves, and a headband....and sweated my ass of on a 7.4 mile run around the neighborhood and through campus=) It was a good run and I felt really good afterward too. No more soreness in the morning which is nice and other than a few cramps during the run it was perfect!
It was nice seeing you this week. Do me a favor and make time for some fun for yourself. Do yourself a favor and get some rest=) You're just getting started in the real world and you look like it's already winning...don't let it.
Try to stay healthy and keep in touch=)

Damn daylight savings...what does that even mean cause I'm pretty sure my daylight has been cut about 4 hours short! Anyway, tonight, or at 5 lol I ran 5.2 miles in 46 minutes. Now, this may mean very little to you but do you know what this means for me...I'm getting FASTER=) I've been getting frustrated for the past couple weeks because I've been busting my butt on longer runs, but I've seemed to be stuck at about a 9.5 min/mile pace. Tonight, however, I rocked a new play list and I guess it worked because a little over 8 minute miles is where I'm hoping to keep my pace!
Of course, after that great workout we ventured off to grocery shop. It was then that I discovered not only my perpetual hunger but the aforementioned Vanilla Coke ZERO, as well...that's right, ZERO calories of delicousness. Enjoy:)

7:00 A.M. comes WAY to early
Ok so I have recommitted myself to Tempur-Pedic on a ridiculous level, and I'm up till 1 A.M. every night doing computer work. So when I plug that alarm clock up for 7 A.M. I'm too tired to even think about it. But once it hits, I'm dying. So I got up this morning, got all my new gear on - and just went. And it wasn't too bad. Running in the cold fucking sucks, but I'm going to have to get used to it. The diet thing has been on and off - it's easy to eat bad and overeat when you're taking clients out all the time. But I did my three again on a pretty hilly path, and I'm going to follow it up with another 3 tomorrow morning. A rest day on Friday like always, cross training at the gym on Saturday, then Sunday comes big: 5 already. I think I had only gotten to 6 when I was really into this before Tempur, so it should be pretty difficult but that's what I get. Those big runs are what it'll really take to get prepared. I've been drinking mad water lately, and it just makes me feel like.... I have to piss all the time. But between this and working about 12 hours a day, I'm feeling pretty good. Legs are a little sore, they probably should be a little more with time, but that'll come as I speed up with time.

NOM NOM NOM
I'm so proud! Definitely thought I had lost you for good this time, but so excited that you're back!
I've been running strong now for the past two weeks, pretty much every day if not every other; always at least 4 times a week and never less than 3 miles. Might not sound like much, but from where I started...the fact that I have not keeled over is in and of itself an accomplishment=)
I'm not sure if this has been brought up before or not but mapmyrun.com is the game I play either before or after each run. Just type in your city and form your own route to the distance of your choice or head out for a run, go until you can go anymore, try to remember where you went, then come home and map it out to find out how far you actually went. I prefer the latter of the two as I always run much further than I would have thought=)
Another fun game...make an hour long play list, or as in my case, a couple=) It's fun because an hour of music is really only about 16 or 17 songs which seem like nothing when you're running. Also, I can usually do about 6 miles in the hour which is a good distance too!
Ok ok I'll stop rambling! Glad to have you back!
Pkeeeeeeew!

Re-Start
Ok so we fell off the wagon. Definitely understandable considering the craziness, but not excusable. Everyone is busy, it's just making the time to do it. I have readjusted my schedule now to accomodate restart, but definitely jumping right in with 5 on Sunday and climbing from there. It's going to be incredibly tough, and I am definitely going to be taking care of injuries and icing down every day to fix up the shock.
So after working until about 2 AM, I forced myself up at 7:30 in order to be able to run before I head off to work. I got out, started my walking warm up, and started freezing. I ALMOST talked myself into going home and going shopping and then running later, but I manned up, layered up, and went out for my 3 miler. It really wasn't too bad, it's pretty hilly out here, but I took it easy enough. It was great to get out again, and trust me I need it.
I will be in Lansing the day and night of the 10th and the day of the 11th so we'll have to meet up. Keep on rockin.
PS: Been keeping up with Lost?

ok so I know I haven't been doing the best either, but I got this thing back up and running so you better get back on! I run a lot...probably 4 times a week and each time at least 4 miles....it's fun, I like it, I'm not fast, but I do it and I guess that's all that really matters.
I'm going to get a new battery for my ipod transmitter so I can start back up on this marathon workout....whoo!
Weekend plans? haha I better be seeing you soon, guy, it's been too too long!

So I decided that when I go for my shorter runs that I will go i-podless...completely without my tunes. However, my 4 mile night JOG turned into one badass workout with my sprinting away from every little noise I heard in the bushes at about 5 minute intervals. LOL It looks like I can either break the rules and jam while I run or I can follow the rules and psych myself out to the point of exhaustion.....

10 miles
Finally....I've been working hard to get here and it's finally showing in mileage because I can honestly say that I wasn't certain I'd ever hit the 10 mile mark. Too bad that's still 16.2 miles short of where I need to be!
10 miles...just under 2 hours.
Stopped once at a crosswalk for about 2 minutes because of heavy traffic and turned off the tunes about 4 miles in. (been trying to run more with less music to get a feel for it.
If you're still out there hope you're doing well and that being in the "real world" hasn't been too scary=)

After a week of enthusiastic people-pleasing and fake smiles...
I finally increased my mileage! This morning I ran 8.2 miles around campus and the neighborhoods here in East Lansing and it was not easy....but, not quite as tough as I imagined it to be.
I was only setting out to do a 5 mile, but 5 quickly turned into 6 and then my head was just in it so I decided to do my first 8 ever! I was completely out-of-breath, but completely satisfied when I took my last few steps up to my front door.
Finished in about an hour and 35 minutes...a little bit long I guess, but I think I'll still be happy about it.
Hope all is well with you, the job hunt, and the running=)
